Apple has released a security update for Mac OS X 10.3 (“Panther”) that’s available through the Mac OS X Software Update preference pane.
The update addresses a potential vulnerability with the Terminal application in OS X 10.3 and OS X 10.3 Server that could allow unauthorized access to a system.
Terminal is an application included with Mac OS X; by default it appears in the Utilities folder. Terminal is used to bypass Mac OS X’s graphical user interface and directly access the BSD operating system through a command line interface. Improvements to Terminal specific to Panther include improved emulation and double-byte encodings and the ability to issue commands and connect to servers through Terminal directly from the Dock.
