Corel Corp. on Wednesday announced the release of Corel Painter 8.1, an updated version of their painting software for Mac and Windows. The new version — as well as an updated user guide — is available for download from the Web site. The update measures about 9.59MB.
Corel Painter 8 replicates traditional painting and sketching methods and tools on the computer. Corel Painter 8 added new features like the Mixer and more than 400 new brushes; it also sports improved compatibility with Adobe Photoshop and other enhancements.
The main change in Corel Painter 8.1 is the return of the Custom Palettes feature, last seen in Painter 7. Users can add items from six library selectors — painters, patterns, looks, weaves, nozzles or gradients. Users can also add brush variants and menu commands to a Custom Palette.
Corel also notes almost two dozen fixes to Painter in this release; some are generic to the application, while others are specific to Mac OS X or Windows operating systems. For more details, visit the Web site.
