Marathon Computer has introduced its PowerRack Model M, a rackmount enclosure designed to accommodate Power Mac G4s equipped with mirror drive doors. This isn’t a bolt-on accessory for G4s — instead, it’s a complete rackmount upgrade chassis that houses the components of such Power Macs in a 4U rack mount enclosure.
Similar to Marathon’s other PowerRack systems, the PowerRack Model M is pre-wired. The company estimates installation time as “less than an hour,” and includes instructions to help end-users through conversion. The case measures about 26.25 inches deep, and will fit in all standard 19-inch racks.
The PowerRack Model M is made of steel, and sports room for six 5.25-inch and two 3.5-inch drive mechanisms, with front-panel accessibility for all drives behind lockable metal panels. The drive cage has been vibration-damped, and the PowerRack can fit a full complement of PCI cards. Fans are located centrally for efficient cooling, and there’s a dedicated fan to cool the CPU.
Now shipping, the Marathon PowerRack Model M carries a suggested retail price of US$699.
