Apple’s Power Mac G5s feature Serial ATA — a faster internal interface than previous Macs have sported, suitable for connecting high-speed hard disk drives that can transfer data up to 1.5Gbits/sec. If you have an older Mac but Serial ATA interests you, Sonnet Technologies Inc. on Friday announced that it’s shipping its Tempo Serial ATA PCI host adapter.
Sonnet indicates that its Tempo SATA card is bootable, and supports Mac OS X v10.2 or later, or Mac OS 8.6 or later. Compatible Mac models include a wide range of legacy Macs equipped with PCI expansion slots dating back to second-generation Power Mac systems, many clones, and other computers.
Sonnet’s Tempo Serial ATA carries an estimated retail price of US$99.95.
