Microsoft’s Windows Media Web site now offers Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X for download.
“Introducing Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X. Sporting a new brushed steel skin for Apple’s newest operating system, this new version of our player opens the world of Windows Media 9 content to Macintosh users, enabling them to access the best audio and video on the Web. New plug-in support added for Internet Explorer, Netscape and Safari enables playback of Windows Media files right from the browser,” says the site.
Microsoft indicates that this new release can play secure content protected using Microsoft Windows Media Rights Manager v1.3. The new release also sports three “skins,” including a mini-skin for audio-only playback.
The 6,990KB file available for download from Microsoft’s Web site appears to be a release version — it installs as version 9.0.0 (3307).
Microsoft’s Mac site had no mention of the new version’s release as MacCentral posted this article.
