The MathWorks on Monday announced the Bioinformatics Toolbox for MATLAB, a Mac OS X compatible product that provides core mathematics and advanced graphical tools for data analysis, visualization and algorithm and application development. Used by engineers and scientists, it has over 500 mathematical, statistical and engineering functions.
The Bioinformatics Toolbox is designed to help users understand and visualize large amounts of research data quickly, according to MathWorks. It provides scientists and bioinformaticists with an open, extensible environment for algorithm development and manipulation and enables communication of applications across research departments.
The Bioinformatics Toolbox, with pricing starting at US$1,000, provides access to standard genomic file formats, Web-based databases such as GenBank and PIR, and online data sources. The toolbox also offers specialized routines for visualizing microarray data, including box plots, I-R plots and spatial heat maps.
