An Apple TV ad that proclaims that the Power Mac G5 is the “world’s fastest, most powerful personal computer” has been banned in the UK by the Independent Television Commission (ITC), which says the commercial is “misleading.”
Eight viewers contacted the ITC to complain that the claim was based on the results of limited tests in which the specification of the computers used was configured in Apple’s favor, according to a PA News article. Apple says that the tests were carried out by an independent third party and are “fair and even.”
However, the ITC said that Apple’s claim isn’t supported by independent reviews and that, at best, the G5 was only “generally as fast” as its competitors, the PA News reports. In its advertising complaints report, the ITC said that it “considered that there was insufficient evidence to support the claim ‘world’s fastest, most powerful personal computer’.”
