Apple Australia is once again attempting to sell Macs within major retail chains with the opening of five Apple “stores within a store” in time for Christmas, according to an Australian IT article.
The new stores within David Jones and Harvey Norman will be structured differently from Apple’s previous tries at selling computers in the department store chain, the article adds. They’ll be Apple branded and staffed by trained Apple employees.
Apple Computer Australia marketing director Arno Lenior told Australian IT that the retail experience did not work in the past as the company “let other people tell the story for us.” Five people will be hired for the stores, which will open in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and the Gold Coast on Dec. 1.
Lenior said Apple would decide on any further expansion of the Apple Solution Consultant program by the middle of next year, Australian IT reports. Also, he didn’t rule out stores opening within other retail chains.
