It’s going to hit store shelves a couple of weeks later that MacSoft previously indicated, but the good news for strategy gamers is that the long-awaited Mac conversion of Age of Mythology is expected to find its way to retailers by the middle of next week.
MacSoft on Wednesday confirmed that Age of Mythology is now in replication and will begin shipping on Friday, November 14. European customers should be able to lay their hands on the game something the following week.
Age of Mythology puts players in the role of the leader of one of nine different ancient civilizations. You’re tasked with managing all the major affairs of your kingdom ranging from diplomacy and trade to war, all through four distinct ages. At your command are mythological forces, mighty creatures like Minotaurs and Cyclopses, and the very power of the Gods, which can be used to bolster your own army’s strength and flatten your enemy’s settlements. The game features new 3D engine technology not before seen on the Mac.
Developed for the PC originally by Ensemble Studios, Age of Mythology comes to the Mac by way of Microsoft Game Studios. Its Macintosh conversion was handled by Westlake Interactive, which MacSoft noted has been working on the conversion since early 2003.
Age of Mythology requires a G3/450MHz or faster, 256MB RAM, 16MB video card and Mac OS X v10.2.6 or later. Age of Mythology carries a suggested retail price of US$49.99.
