Wired Inc. has released Mac OS X-native software for its MediaPress encoder, called MediaPress X. Bundled with all new MediaPress SDI encoders, MediaPress X can also be ordered as a software upgrade for existing owners of MediaPress Pro, YUV and SDI encoders.
The new application was crafted using Mac OS X’s Cocoa application framework, and supports multiple processors. It features built-in realtime preview functions, audio level meters, improved Variable Bit Rate (VBR) MPEG-2 encoding quality, offers batch encoding features, supports chapter markers in Apple’s own DVD Studio Pro software and can import and export batch lists — useful for bringing in date from a telecine or Edit Decision List (EDL), for example.
The software is free for anyone who purchased a MediaPress encoder after May 1, 2002 — others can buy it for US$499. More details are available from the Web site.
