Video capture and conversion device maker AJA Video Systems Inc. on Wednesday expanded its Io product line to include the new Io LD and Io LA. Like the original Io, the new boxes provide pro-level video input and output for Final Cut Pro through the Mac’s FireWire interface, though they’re smaller and less expensive than their predecessor.
The Io LD is designed to work specifically with SDI digital systems. It features 10-bit SDI video with 8 channel 24 bit embedded audio I/O, 10-bit component/composite analog video output, 2 channel balanced analog output, 2 channel S/PDIF digital audio output, genlock with looping BNC connections and a BNC/XLR analog out breakout cable.
The Io LA is aimed specifically at analog component or composite systems. It features 10-bit component and composite analog video I/O, 4-channel balanced analog audio I/O, simultaneous output of component/composite and S Video, a “frame synchronizer” architecture, genlock with looping BNC connections and an 8 XLR analog breakout cable.
Both new Io systems also include a single FireWire 400 interface to connect to the Macintosh and also sport RS-422-based machine control capabilities. Either Io interface can be used on a desktop. Alternately, users can also mount both Io boxes in an optional rack-mounting bracket; the resulting configuration occupies 1U of vertical rack space.
The Io LD and Io LA carry list prices of US$1,190 each. Both will begin shipping in January, 2004.
