Germany’s Helios Software, developer of print and prepress server solutions, has announced that the latest version of the company’s Helios EtherShare now supports the newest version of the Apple Filing Protocol, AFP 3.1.
EtherShare is part of Helio’s lineup of network and prepress server solutions, which also include PCShare and WebShare. Helio’s server solutions run on Mac OS X, Hewlett-Packard HP-UX and Tru64 UNIX, IBM AIX, SGI IRIX, Sun Solaris and Linux on Pentium based systems.
Support for AFP 3.1 allows EtherShare servers to provided read/write performance up to 60 MB/sec when using a single Mac OS X client connected via Gigabit Ethernet, according to the company. In addition EtherShare now supports file names up to 255 characters in length, unicode file naming, files larger in size than 4 GB and backwards compatibility with Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9 machines.
