The Argus reports that Union City, Calif. middle schools have been awarded a US$900,000 federal grant over the next two years to purchase new computers and other equipment, extend hours at school libraries and train teachers to use technology.
The federal program is called the Enhancing Education Through Technology grant, and its goal is to improve the way technology is integrated into middle and junior high school English and social studies curricula, according to the manager overseeing the school district’s technology integration.
As part of the deal, the three middle schools in the Bay Area city have already bought 200 new Apple eMac systems, and teachers have already begun their training.
