Other World Computing (OWC) today debuted a new line of external 7200 RPM FireWire drives called the Neptune. Available in capacities from 60 to 250 GB, the FireWire 400 drives use a new custom Oxford 911 bridge chip and include two six-pin FireWire 400 ports.The Neptune line provides transfer rates up to 400 Mbps and includes a 2 or 8 Mb buffer (depending on drive capacity).
The Neptune line is designed to be easily portable, weighing 2.7 pounds, with the shock-resistant enclosures measuring 15 x 9x 5.5 inches. The drives come preinstalled with Intech Hard Disk SpeedTools and Dantz Retrospect Express software.
The Neptune line retails for $109.99 for the 60GB version, $129.99 for 80GB, $159.99 for 120GB, $189.99 for 160GB, $239.99 for 200GB and $299.99 for 250GB versions, respectively.
