Intelli Innovations Inc. on Wednesday introduced a new Mac OS X-compatible USB-based barcode reader called the IntelliScanner Scanabout. The device is built for both tethered and portable use, and it’s aimed at merchants, libraries or anyone else who needs to track inventory using their Mac.
The Scanabout uses a portable, detachable battery pack that accepts two AAA batteries. It can store up to 3,000 barcodes in its on-board memory. Once the device is reconnected to the Mac, users can upload the stored values by pressing a button.
Intelli Innovations includes ProInventory, software used to track inventory lists that includes features like multiple inventory tracking sheets, Excel-compatible report generation and more. Also included is xTagger, software which can create and print asset tags, book label graphics and more.
The device and software support popular barcode symbologies including UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, Code 39, Codabar, Pharmacode, Industrial 2of5, Interleaved 2of5, Code 93, Code 128, EAN 128 and Plessey.
Also included with the package is a detachable USB cable, documentation, and “On-the-Go Memory Worksheet.”
Intelli Innovations sells the IntelliScanner Scanabout for US$599.95. It’s compatible with Mac OS X v10.1 or later and Mac OS 9.1 or later. It can be ordered online.
Intelli Innovations noted that the Scanabout will be on display at its booth at next month’s Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, Calif. Look for them in booth 3932, where they are expected to announce “a new consumer-oriented product” as well.
