Freeverse Software has announced BumperCar. It’s a bit of a departure for the company that’s best known for its card, board and action games. BumperCar is a Web browser specifically designed for kids.
BumperCar utilizes both WebCore and OmniWeb. WebCore is the same software code used by Safari, and OmniWeb is the Web browser developed by The Omni Group. Freeverse has added features to make the browser safe for kids to use — a built-in profanity filter, for example, whitelists, and Internet Content Rating Association self-rated sites.
Other features include the ability to enforce a time limit and the ability to block uploading of personal data. BumperCar even includes a few games and other kid-friendly content built-in.
Freeverse plans to show BumperCar to attendees of Macworld Conference & Expo in January — they will update their Web site with more details closer to the event.
