Salem, N.H.-based Virtix Inc. on Wednesday released Virtix Arsenal, a new plug-in for iMovie that allows users to add special effects whose position can be changed over time, using a technique called keyframing. Virtix Arsenal costs US$34.99 and can be purchased online.
Virtix Arsenal allows enterprising iMovie producers to add laser and machine gun effects, and the developers explained that the Laser effect could even be traced over a sword to simulate “a light saber duel.” You can also use movable, keyframable positions with Arrow, Spotlight and Witness Protection effects to draw attention to or away from an object in the frame, and to move the effect as an object or person moves.
The plug-in has its own custom user interface and combines all effects, to keep the iMovie palette free of clutter.
A demo movie, sample still images and more info has been posted to the Web site.
