Brother International Corp. on Monday introduced a pair of new Mac-compatible mid-range office laser printers — the HL-6050D and the HL-6050DN. Aimed at office desktops and small workgroups, the new printers provide up to 25 page per minute (ppm) speed, built-in duplex, expandable paper capacity, a wireless networking option and more.
The monochrome printers feature a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and a 500-sheet lower paper tray; a second 500-sheet paper tray can also be added. A three-color LCD display and control panel helps users quickly gauge set-up status, the need to intevene on a print job and more. The control panel also sports one-touch job reprint and cancel buttons, as well as a secure-print function. Both printers ship standard with a 7,500-page toner cartridge and a 30,000-page drum unit.
Both printers are Mac and Windows-compatible. Brother said the printer will work on Mac OS X v10.1 or 10.2.1 and higher, as well as Mac OS 8.6 or higher. Emulations supported by the printer include PCL6, BR-Script 3 (PostScript 3 emulation), IBM Proprinter and Epson FX.
At US$549, the HL-6050D comes standard with USB 2.0 and parallel interfaces. The HL-6050DN costs $699, but comes standard with a 10/100baseT Ethernet print server. An internal 802.11b/g Ethernet print server is also available.
