Mac OS X users who subscribe to select dial-up ISP services can take advantage of accelerated web-browsing and email capabilities now that SlipStream Data Inc. has added the OS to its offerings, the company announced on Wednesday.
Accelerator technologies are the current trend among dial-up ISPs that want to attract and keep customers who either can’t or won’t move to broadband. They compress and optimize data while offering options to reduce image quality and filter out certain content. SlipStream claims to increase download times by up to a factor of five with its proprietary algorithms.
Visit the company’s partners page to learn which ISPs work with its technology. SlipStream says that they don’t have a list of ISPs that offer Mac OS X support, so they recommend that Mac users either look for an ISP on the list and check its site for compatibility or contact their current ISP to see if it uses the company’s technology. The two major ISPs on their partner page, NetZero and Juno, both offer Mac OS X services.
