At long last, GeeThree’s Sweet Multiport is now shipping, according to the company. It’s a multi-port tap that makes it possible for you to connect FireWire, USB and flash media into the front of your Power Mac G3 or G4. The Sweet Multiport was first introduced at Macworld CreativePro in New York this past July.
The Sweet Multiport offers up two FireWire 400 ports, a USB 1.1 interface and a five-in-one slot that reads CompactFlash, IBM MicroDrive, Memory Stick, Secure Digital and MultiMediaCard formats. Connected to the Mac using a PCI expansion card, the Sweet Multiport occupies an empty front drive bay on Power Mac systems ranging from the Blue & White G3 to graphite-colored, Quicksilver and Mirror Door G4s.
No software driver is required to get the Sweet Multiport to work, though you will need an empty PCI slot and Mac OS X v10.1 or higher or Mac OS 9.1 or higher. The kit includes the front panel card, PCI card, cable, mounting bracket and faceplate.
The Sweet Multiport costs US$129.95.
