Network administrators seeking an enterprise level 2GB Fibre Channel RAID solution should take a look at the Vanguard Ultra Elite Fibre System, which
debuted on Thursday. The new system is aimed at demanding enterprise applications, professional digital content creation applications, and Storage Area Networks (SAN).
The Vanguard Ultra Elite sports 200MB/second dual loop fibre throughputs, 512MB of high-speed cache, and a high-speed IBM RISC processor for high throughputs across up to 12 hard drives in a 3U rackmount configuration. It supports hard drives up to 250GB and can provide up to 3 TeraBytes of storage.
FireWireDirect.com also notes that its new solution features hot swappable redundant power supplies and fans, front panel configuration options, and automatic transparent rebuilding in the event of a hard disk failure.
The minimum Mac OS X requirement is version 10.2. The Vanguard Ultra Elite’s list price is US$5,695 for the basic model sans hard drives, $7,395 for the 1440GB model, $7,895 for the 1920GB model, and $9,695 for the 3000GB model.
