Each January Macworld magazine and Aspyr Media team up for the MacBowl, an annual charity event that happens during Macworld Expo. Sponsored bowling teams gather at the Yerba Buena Bowling Center on top of the Moscone Center as they compete for the coveted MacBowl trophy and raise funds for disadvantaged students in San Francisco schools. This year the event’s sponsors are hoping to augment the funds raised by the MacBowl event itself with an Online Charity Auction as well.
Vendors in the Macintosh community can join the MacBowl event itself by sponsoring a company bowling team with a set tax-deductible monetary donation or computer donation of equal value. The computer equipment and funds are used to update or install a San Francisco school-district elementary school’s computer lab. This year’s recipient is Treasure Island Elementary School.
Donated products are featured in the MacBowl auction for online bidding. The bidding will close on January 16, 2004, and the highest bidder receives the product. The money will then be used for the Treasure Island Elementary School’s computer lab.
In addition to Macworld and Aspyr Media, Apple, Microsoft, ATI Technologies, BookEndz, BOOQ, SmartsCo and AstroAge are this year’s supporters.
Vendors interested in participating in this year’s MacBowl or the Online Charity Auction are encouraged to e-mail kmacmullen@macworld.com.
Macworld and MacCentral are both publications of IDG.
