Long-range AirPort antenna maker QuickerTek Inc. has taken the unusual step of offering users of a competitor’s product information on how to improve their own reception.
QuickerTek has made information available on its Web site to perform what it bills as a “tune-up” to Dr. Bott’s ExtendAIR Omni Antenna for the Apple Extreme Base Station. The instructions aren’t for the faint of heart — they are provided without support, and require users to solder parts and disassemble the antenna.
The company said it’s making the information available as a response to customers who have suggested that QuickerTek extend its knowledge of wireless network range improvements to apply that information to other products. “Uponinvestigation, we decided that we could help customers get the most out oftheir antennas,” said a press statement offered by QuickerTek.
