AstroAge LLC — a new company founded by former Apple Product Evangelists — announced an accessory designed to enable Power Mac G4 and Power Mac G5 users to gain some mobility with their large desktop computer systems. The Gboard5 and Gboard4 platforms are the result.
The platforms enable users to move their computers around to gain access to rear I/O connectors, the DVD/CD drive tray, or to simply move the computer to a new location.
The design of the Gboard incorporates Plexiglas acrylic, two-inch metal die-cast twin wheel casters, and nickel chrome plated steel acorn nuts. To install the computer in the platform, G5 users use two slots to slide the G5 to lock it in place; G4 users use two vertical guide tabs that fit between the tower’s handle and main body. An optional travel strap is also available for the Gboard4.
AstroAge’s Web site is selling the Gboard5 and Gboard4 systems for $129.99 and US$99 respectively. Models with locking front casters are also available, for $139.99 and $109.99 respectively. The Gboard4’s optional travel strap costs $19.99. Shipments are planned for the end of January.
