MicroNet Technology on Tuesday introduced the SANcube800, a new FireWire 800-based Storage Area Network (SAN) solution. The device provides up to 1.5 terabytes of storage for digital content creators looking for a way of transferring large projects to each other.
SAN systems eschew conventional networks with faster connectivity; the SANcube800 enables users to transfer files to one another at FireWire 800 speeds. It incorporates a hardware-based RAID controller that supports RAID 5 and hot-swappable drives. MicroNet claims the SANcube800 can deliver up to 70MB/sec transfer rates. The SANcube800 itself is a “data cube” that has five 7200rpm ATA-6 hard disk drives. It’s compact enough to easily transport, as well.
MicroNet expects to deliver the SANcube800 in Q1 of 2004. Pricing was not immediately available.
