Taking a cue from Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ announcement of the deaths of Mac OS 9 and the CRT monitor, FrogPad proclaimed the death of the QWERTY keyboard as they showed off their new one-handed, Bluetooth-enabled keyboard at Macworld Conference & Expo. The new 3-inch by 5-inch, 20-key keyboard incorporates FrogPad’s patented ergonomic layout, which centers around the 15 most-used letters in the English alphabet and cuts the cord with Bluetooth.
According to the company, most users of the new keyboard can get their speed up to 40 words per minute after an average of 8 hours of training and practice, as opposed to the 10-20 words per minute on average for even the fastest thumb typists. It comes with a built-in rechargeable battery that can be charged through a wall adapter or a USB port. FrogPad expects to ship the keyboard in the second quarter of 2004. No pricing was given.
