Aspyr Media Inc. spread its Macworld Conference & Expo announcements over a few days, and wrapped the week up on Thursday with the news that it would bring two new expansion packs to the Macintosh for its popular games Medal of Honor Allied Assault and SimCity 4.
The latest installment of the popular Medal of Honor franchise to make it to the Macintosh, Breakthrough returns players to the battlefields of World War II as they take the role of Sergeant John Baker, an infantryman in the 34th “Red Bull” Division. You’ll take on special missions as you help the American forces in Northern Africa and Italy, facing Nazi Germany’s famed Afrika Korps Panzers, Nazi strongholds in Sicily, and the daunting natural fortress of Monte Cassino.
The game sports 11 single-player levels and nine multiplayer levels, a new multiplayer mode for the Medal of Honor series called Liberation, 12 historically accurate Allied and Axis weapons, and more than two dozen new soldier models including Italian, American, German and British troops.
Medal of Honor Allied Assault is required to use this expansion pack; system requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.6 or Mac OS 9.2.2 or later; G3/733MHz or faster; 256MB RAM; 1.6GB hard disk space; ATI Radeon 7500 or nVidia GeForce2 or better graphics with 16MB VRAM.
Medal of Honor Breakthrough is being developed internally by Aspyr Studios, and has reached its First Playable development milestone. The company anticipates shipping the game in late March.
What’s more, Aspyr announced that it’s bringing SimCity 4 Rush Hour to the Macintosh. The company indicated that the game is already in early development a the studios of i5works. A specific release schedule wasn’t available for the pack, which adds on to the original SimCity 4 game.
Rush Hour dramatically enhances SimCity 4’s transportation infrastructure options, adding capabilities like one-way roads, passenger ferries and much more. Rush Hour also enables you to take control of vehicles, and “U-Drive-It” missions help you to boost your Mayor ratings, earn new buildings and vehicles, and get Simoleons (the currency of the land).
