“With the advent of Mac OS X, making a backup of the system folder to guard against potential corruption became impractical, if not impossible,” says David Nanian, the founder of Shirt Pocket. So Nanian came up with an application that he felt would make him a superhero in the eyes of many Mac users: SuperDuper!, which allows you to copy your system folder before you make changes to your Mac, just in case something goes wrong in the process.
SuperDuper! offers a “Safety Clone” feature that isolates your Mac from potential problems, in addition to a host of scripts you can run to perform other tasks, such as a checkpoint option that allows you to “roll back” your Mac to right before a crisis occurred. Shirt Pocket notes on its Web site that the checkpoint feature even restores iSync data to the way it was.
You can download SuperDuper! from the Shirt Pocket site and evaluate most of its functions, including the Safety Clone feature, for free. A fully enabled copy costs US$19.99.
