Mac peripheral maker Griffin Technology Inc. said that it’s now including a separate dock to FireWire cable with its PowerPod, the iPod auto charger, making the device compatible with old and new iPods alike. The price remains US$24.99.
The PowerPod enables iPod users to juice up their iPods using the 12-volt accessory outlet or cigarette lighter found on automobiles. The apparatus features a male connector on one end that attaches to the accessory outlet and a FireWire port on the other end. The PowerPod works with “third generation” iPods equipped with a dock connector and also supports the first and second generation iPods that use a FireWire connector instead.
The dock-to-FireWire cable now included with the PowerPod replaces the straight 48-inch FireWire cable previously bundled with the device. Up to now, users have been instructed to use the cable included with their iPod.
