Networked TiVo Series 2 DVR owners who buy the TiVo Home Media Option can share music and photos from the Macs on their home network with their TiVo devices, making the TiVo a bridge between the Mac and the home entertainment center. Now TiVo Desktop — the software which enables this capability on your Mac — is compatible with Apple’s iPhoto 4 software.
TiVo Desktop for Mac v1.6 was recently released on the TiVo Web site. The 216K update specifically adds support for iPhoto 4, the latest version of iPhoto bundled with Apple’s iLife 04 package.
iLife 04 was unveiled by Apple CEO Steve Jobs at last week’s Macworld Conference & Expo keynote. The US$49 suite includes iMovie, iDVD, iTunes, a new music composition application called GarageBand, and iPhoto 4. The new version of iPhoto sports greatly enhanced performance, time-based organization, “Smart Albums,” Rendezvous file sharing, photo rating, and new slideshow transitions inspired by Apple’s Keynote presentation software.
While TiVo Desktop for Mac enables you to listen to your Mac-bound music and view digital photos on your home entertainment center through your networked TiVo DVR, TiVo notes that the new TiVo Desktop for Mac software does not support audio files encoded using Dolby Advanced Audio Codec (AAC). This includes music purchased at the iTunes Music Store.
