Texas-based FirewireDirect.com announced on Friday the addition of a new product to its FireWire 800 line: the NitroDigital (NitroDV) 7-port FireWire 800/USB 2.0 PCI adapter card, which sports 3 FireWire 800 and 4 USB 2.0 connectors.
Two ports — one FireWire 800 and one USB 2.0 — are shared internally, and FirewireDirect.com notes that all seven are backwards compatible with existing FireWire 400 and USB 1.1 products. It’s 32- or 64-bit compatible, so you can install it in a new Power Mac G5, and the 64-bit burst speeds can attain 266MB per second.
The NitroDV requires Mac OS X v.10.2.5. It ships with a power adapter and sells for US$99.95 on the FirewireDirect Web site. It’s available now.
