What’s a Widget? It’s whatever you want it to be, and the newest release of Konfabulator makes them easier to use. Arlo Rose and Perry Clarke’s application is now at version 1.5.4, and the latest update fixes issues with Widgets that vanish when your Mac wakes from sleep or re-open when they shouldn’t, in addition to tooltips support for the XML and JavaScript engine, graphical improvements, international support for the stock ticker, and more.
Konfabulator allows you to create and use handy little files that can do all sorts of things. You can create Widgets that feed stock quotes, up-to-the-second weather reports, images from your Pictures folder, the time, news headlines, and more straight to your Desktop. They can even be games, to-do lists, and just about anything else you can imagine. In fact, there’s an entire gallery of almost 500 Widgets that you can download once you start using Konfabulator.
You can download Konfabulator 1.5.4 from Rose and Clarke’s Web site. It requires Mac OS X v.10.2 (Jaguar) or higher, although they recommend 10.2.3. A single license is US$25, while local and worldwide site licenses run $500 and $2,500, respectively.
