As scanning technology improves, so does the number of ways you can enter data into your Mac. Intelli Innovations, Inc. added one more option to the list on Wednesday with the release of the IntelliScanner OCR pen, an optical wand that works like a highlighter, allowing you to drag it across both printed text and barcodes and instantly capture the information.
The IntelliScanner can read all major barcode types, including Bookland EAN, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 39, and Code 128, and its dual customizable buttons allow you to insert special characters or switch fields in Microsoft Excel or FileMaker Pro without touching the keyboard. IntelliScanner can even read scanned text to you, thanks to its integration with Mac OS X’s text-to-speech functionality, and it recognizes 40 languages, as well as any special characters you designate.
In addition, you can use a variety of applications with the new OCR pen, such as Microsoft Word, AppleWorks, Safari, Apple’s Mail client, and others. The included Collection, ProInventory, and xTagger software lets you organize CD, DVD, and other media collections by scanning barcodes, track inventory, and generate asset tags, respectively.
The IntelliScanner is available now for US$349. It requires Mac OS X v.10.2 (Jaguar) and an available USB 1.1 or 2.0 port.
