Apple’s Games site periodically previews new games that are headed to the platform, links to game-related content around the Web, links to demos and also provides links to game trailers hosted by Apple’s QuickTime site. The latest addition to the site is a look at Shadowbane: The Rise of Chaos, Ubi Soft’s new expansion for the massively multiplayer online game Shadowbane.
Ubi Soft released Shadowbane last year. Developed by Wolfpack Studios, Shadowbane is one of very few Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) to make it to the Mac, and one of the only such games to be simultaneously released for Mac and Windows PCs.
Shadowbane immerses players in a fantasy world called Aerynth that’s a bit different from your run-of-the-mill MMORPG. Instead of just running around a static world slaying monsters and collecting treasure, combatants are encouraged to work together to shape and control the events within their virtual domain.
The Rise of Chaos is a new expansion pack that extends users’ experience in Aerynth by “moving its history along,” providing new zones, monsters, professions, disciplines, armor and weapons, and even adding a new playable race called the Nephilim to the mix. New in-game features and graphical improvements round out the boost that Rise of Chaos gives Shadowbane players.
“As you venture forth into Aerynth, you’ll find more than 30 new areas full of demons and other dark creatures brought forth from the steadily weakening Chaos Gate. You’ll also notice new details throughout the digital world, including variable weather, which is an impressive sight to behold when you visit Maelstrom, a new continent wracked by vicious storms,” said Brad Cook.
