BKMS Software Development announced on Thursday that it has four new plug-ins that will help you jazz up your iMovie transitions: Fancy Wipes, Melt In, Pixel Fade, and Pixel Wash. They join the company’s other four plug-ins already available.
Fancy Wipes was inspired by silent films and Looney Toons cartoons. It includes the classic Circle Fade Targetable transition, in which a black circle moves in from the edge of the screen to any point you’ve selected, holds briefly, and blinks out.
Melt In creates a unique effect every time you use it. It starts with either all white or all black pixels and “melts in” the rest of the scene.
Pixel Fade breaks the image into random blocks of pixels and can either fade in from black or fade out to black. The blocks can be 2, 4, 8, or 16 pixels square. Its complementary plug-in, Pixel Wash, washes the image in and out instead of breaking it up and also allows you to set the block size.
You can view demonstrations of all the available transition plug-ins on the BKMS Web site. You can also download a few free transitions pulled from the Melt Through, Melt Away, Pixelate and Soft Wipes sets. Each plug-in sells for US$8, or three for $20. They’re compatible with iMovie 4.0 on Mac OS X v.10.3.2 (or higher), iMovie 2.1.1 on OS 9.2.2 (or higher), or iMovie 3.0.3 on Mac OS X v.10.1.5 (or higher).
