If you often work on more than one project at a time, you’re probably tired of hiding and revealing applications as you move back and forth between jobs. That’s where CodeTek Studios’ CodeTek VirtualDesktop 3.0, which was released on Wednesday, comes in. It allows you to create up to 100 virtual desktops, each with its own set of windows, and travel between them seamlessly.
The application was unveiled as a public Beta at Macworld Conference & Expo three weeks ago. “We thank the more than 2,500 beta testers who made valuable suggestions during the last month,” said Bill Goldstein, CodeTek Studio’s President and CEO. “Thanks to them, CodeTek VirtualDesktop is unparalleled in its ability to let users control the way they work and handle multitasking.”
CodeTek VirtualDesktop 3.0 also features full Apple X11 and Exposé support as well as a new pager that features autohide and improved HotKey and AppleScript support. In addition, the application’s “Focus Follows Mouse” functionality allows you to move your mouse over a window to instantly bring it forward; a hotkey turns it off when necessary.
You can choose between Pro and Lite versions of CodeTek VirtualDesktop 3.0. The latter lacks some features found in the former, such as the pager’s autohide ability, focus follows mouse, custom background wallpaper for each desktop, and more.
The Pro edition sells for US$40 while the Lite version costs $20. You can upgrade to the latter from a previous version for no charge, but upgrades from previous Pro editions are $15. If you’d like to try before you buy, you can download a 15-day demo from the CodeTek Web site.
