Ranchero Software has announced the release of NetNewsWire and NetNewsWire Lite, the RSS Web newsreaders for Mac OS X. Both versions gain new features and fix bugs with this release.
NetNewsWire enables Mac users to read RSS newsfeeds, produced by everything from daily news Web sites like MacCentral to personal Weblogs. It also enables Weblog users to post to their own blogs, and supports various popular blogging formats. NetNewsWire Lite is the freeware version of NetNewsWire, streamlined with fewer features but requiring no registration fee to use.
“Small but important bugs” were fixed with this release, according to the developers. NetNewsWire now prompts for confirmation when quick-subscribing via a “feed” URL, as well. Also new in the Lite version is disk caching of feeds between runs — a feature heretofore limited to the “full” version. New feeds have also been added to the Sites Drawer, along with two new categories, Movies and Music.
NetNewsWire costs US$39.95 for a single user license. NetNewsWire Lite costs nothing.
