Many users of Apple’s .Mac service have come to rely upon Backup, the backup utility made by Apple. Now Apple has posted a point release with some improvements — version 2.0.1. Apple is also offering .Mac users a free game from developer GameHouse.
Backup offers users the ability to back up data to their iDisk — an online storage repository offered to all full .Mac users. If you have an active .Mac subscription, Backup can also be used to back up data to a hard drive, network server, optical drive or other mounted volume as well.
Apple said that the new release of Backup, which can be downloaded from .Mac once you sign in, “provides added quality and reliability improvements to scheduled backups.” You may also be able to download the new release through the Software Update System Preferences pane.
In related news, Apple offered .Mac subscribers Super Jigsaw Puzzles, a new game from Mac and PC casual game maker GameHouse. Super Jigsaw Puzzles is a collection of twelve virtual jigsaw puzzles that GameHouse made especially for .Mac. Each puzzle can be modified with varying levels of difficulty with up to 500 pieces per puzzle.
Also available as part of the promotion is a special .Mac member discount on GameHouse’s Pop & Drop, a Bubble Bobble/Snood-style arcade game where you blast a descending wall of colored balls. The game is available to .Mac users for US$12.95, regularly $19.95.
