Other World Computing’s (OWC) FasterMac.net Internet service provider (ISP) announced on Tuesday that its accelerated, unlimited dial-up service called TurboMac is now available. It employs software that uses on-the-fly caching and compression/decompression techniques to accelerate Web page display and email downloading times. OWC notes that Web pages finish loading up to six-and-a-half times faster with TurboMac than with non-accelerated ISPs.
“We’ve been in the ISP business for nearly seven years now,” said OWC president Larry O’Connor, “and it’s a real pleasure to offer Internet services to our fellow Mac-users who deserve quality service for a reasonable cost.”
FasterMac.net’s introductory rate for TurboMac is US$120 for the first year, but only for the first 500 customers who sign up. Standard rates are $139.95 annually, $37.95 quarterly, and $13.95 monthly. All TurboMac accounts included unlimited Internet access, five free e-mail addresses, 10MB of Web hosting space, and spam and virus filtering. System requirements call for Mac OS X v.10.2.8 (Jaguar) or higher.
