Symantec Inc. has noted that its Norton Internet Security 3.0 for Macintosh and Norton Personal Firewall 3.0 for Macintosh software products have been updated to ensure proper functionality under Mac OS X v10.3 “Panther.” The updates are available using the LiveUpdate download technology integrated into the software.
Although Mac OS X offers its own firewall capabilities, Norton Personal Firewall provides users with an additional layer of protection to help thwart unauthorized access. The software includes an auto-setup capability and can be customized to suit your needs. It also alerts you if intruders try to gain access to your Mac, offers information about connected users, and tracks logs that help you know what’s happening on your system.
Norton Internet Security 3.0 combines Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus software with Norton Personal Firewall as well. The software also includes Norton Privacy Control, Norton Parental Control, and iClean from Aladdin Systems.
In somewhat related news, Symantec also noted that replacement boot CD-ROMs are now available for users of Norton SystemWorks 3.0 for Macintosh and Norton Utilities 8.0 for Macintosh with Apple hardware released after June 22, 2003. Users who need such CDs are encouraged to contact Symantec tech support to order replacements. Symantec plans to have the new boot CDs inside retail packages shortly.
