Companies that handle a large amount of digital content may want to take a look at Popwire Technology’s Compression Engine, which allows users to build large media coding farms and distribute content in multiple formats between different systems. The Swedish developer announced on Wednesday that version Compression Engine 1.5 is now available.
The new edition adds support for 3:2 and 2:3 pull-down, NTSC and PAL conversion, watermarks, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 output, RealMedia, and time code tracks, which allow for frame-accurate proxy copies.
Compression Engine “time-to-show” time by helping automate the production workflow. For example, notes Popwire Technology, turning 20 video clips into 8 different format and data rate combinations requires 160 compressions and tens of thousands of calculations, making it too tedious to perform by hand. Compression Engine, however, can handle such a task and even automatically transcode file formats between incompatible operating systems.
You can also combine Compression Engine with Popwire’s Compression Master, which is used to create Compression Engine’s settings and automate encoding and transcoding, to further automate the workflow between content providers and content distributors.
Compression Engine 1.5 OS X is available now for Apple’s Xserve. It’s scalable and easily upgradeable, allowing it to grow with a company. Contact Popwire Technology for pricing information.
