Freeverse Software announced Monday that it’s shipping copies of Northland in North America. Northland is a real-time strategy game that comes to the Mac courtesy of German Mac game publisher e.p.i.c. interactive, with whom Freeverse has a two-game distribution partnership. This is the first of the two games.
Northland borrows from Norse mythology for its background and setting. The real-time strategy game features Hatschi, Sigurd, Bjami and Crya — the same four heroes that were featured in Northland’s predecessor, Cultures 2 — the Gates of Asgard. The fearless foursome defeated the Midgard Serpent and saved the world, thus angering Loki, God of Mischief. Loki seeks revenge by tormenting the four heroes in hopes of sneaking back into Asgard, home of the gods.
In Northland, you must develop the resources and capabilities of your town while meeting each individual’s needs; the game allows you manage individual characters or leave to the their own devices, but one way or the other, a successfully developed town can mount an offensive against Loki’s minions.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.x or Mac OS 9.x; G3/350MHz and 192MB RAM.
Freeverse is selling the game through its online store for US$29.95. The Northland demo is also available for download from the download page.
