TOLIS Group, which focuses on data back-up solutions, announced on Monday the introduction of three new Mac OS X applications: BRU Server, BRU LE, and TOLIS Tape Tools.
BRU Server features Disk Staging, back-ups for systems that aren’t always on the network, and almost limitless scalability. Its three customizable interface options feature a graphic user interface (GUI) as well as character-based and command line management consoles. The latter two provide local and remote control and headless backup and restore operations.
BRU Server also provides support of case-sensitivity under the Mac OS X v10.3 Server HFS+ filesystem as well as compatibility with FileVault. It can be configured to automatically back up mobile computers, such as laptops, when they’re either physically plugged in or when they log on to the wireless portion of the network.
Pricing starts at US$379 for BRU Server Basic plus 1 client. BRU Server Network plus 25 clients is $599, while BRU Server Enterprise plus 150 clients is $2,499. Client licenses are $50 each for the first 4, $225 for a 5-pack, $375 for a 10-pack, $500 for a 25-pack, and $750 for a 100-pack.
If BRU Server is more than you need, BRU LE offers standalone backup capabilities for any PowerPC-based G3, G4, or G5 Mac. It features both an Aqua GUI and a command line console. It writes to disk-based files and supports such target devices as FireWire and USB drives as well as tape backups. It also supports any SCSI or Fibre Channel-connected autoloader that contains a single tape drive and up to 10 cartridge slots. TOLIS Group expects to add support for Apple’s SuperDrive in the near future.
BRU LE features a migration path to BRU Server, and tapes created with it are fully compatible with BRU Server. Pricing is $129.
Finally, TOLIS Tape Tools features the ability to transfer the data contained on tar, cpio, or pax-based tapes to Mac OS X systems. It features TOLIS’s tapectl, libctl, taperead, tapewrite, and tapecopy utilities and it natively supports all tape technologies, tape formats, and tape hardware configurations.
Pricing is $159, or $99 when purchased with BRU LE or BRU Server.
