Mac game publisher Feral Interactive has once again posted a Friday news update to keep avid gamers apprised of what’s happening in their UK offices. The company is working on a number of projects right now and has updated with status reports on Chessmaster 9000, Worms 3D and XIII.
Chessmaster 9000 is indeed coming to the Mac courtesy of Feral, which plans a release some time in the second quarter (April – June) of 2004. While development is happening now, Feral Interactive spokesman Camille Thouvenin noted that a final decision on whether to support Mac OS 9 has not yet been made.
“The old bloke on the packaging is not Gandalf moonlighting for some extra moolah,” Thouvenin quipped. Feral will launch a mini Web site for Chessmaster 9000 on March 12, 2004, similar to what it has done for other pending releases.
Feral is also busy working on Worms 3D, Team17’s first 3D adaptation of its enormously popular strategy/action game featuring warlike worms hell-bent on blowing each other to smithereens. A QuickTime movie showing the development version of the Mac game in full 3D splendor was recently posted on the Worms 3D area on Feral’s Web site, and it’s an 8MB download.
The third and final trailer in Feral’s teaser campaign for its forthcoming release of XIII has also been posted. This time, you get “Meet the cast … before they shoot you.” You’ll be introduced to XIII, Major Jones, The Mongoose, Colonel Amos and General Carrington. XIII is a first person shooter adaptation of the French comic book of the same name; it features cel-shaded graphics and a storyline worthy of 24 or Alias.
