Last week MacCentral brought readers news about XO Play’s release of The Rise of the Lost, billed as an “iPod Story Game.” Now comes word of XO Play’s second release, Herbert’s Big Adventure.
Both games use the iPod’s Notes section, and are text-based adventure games similar to the “Choose Your Own Adventure” series of paperbacks once popular with schoolkids. As you read through the adventure you are asked to choose what to do next by selecting from options found at the bottom of the page.
While “The Rise of the Lost” was set in a fantasy realm filled with swords and sorcery, “Herbert’s Big Adventure” seems more inspired by Sierra’s classic “Leisure Suit Larry” series, because here you’re a lounge lizard looking to score. The game site describes the main character as “a heart breaker, lady lover — funny guy who has all the right moves with all the right smooth talk.”
You can download Herbert’s Big Adventure from XO Play’s Web site. It costs US$14.99 to register.
