Hot on the heels of updating their productivity application NoteTaker to version 1.8, developer AquaMinds Software announced on Friday that NoteTaker Viewer is now available as a free download from the company’s Web site. It allows anyone to open, print, and share a notebook created with NoteTaker.
“When we invented Web Notebooks, we knew that our users would benefit from the publish to the Web feature,” said AquaMinds co-founder, president, and chief designer Scott Love. “But we also knew the Web experience would not entirely be the complete expression of a digital notebook on the desktop. That’s why we’re releasing our free NoteTaker Viewer for OS X.
“Our customers have told us that they love using Web Notebooks but they also want to be able to show their work and content as a fully interactive notebook on the desktop. And it must be interactive, completely Internet-aware and all with seamless multimedia support for Apple’s iLife components.”
NoteTaker allows you to assemble ideas, to-do lists, notes, links, and more into Notebooks that can be as simple or complex as you want, including multi-linked project binders filled with many pages of in-depth notes. Its NTML (Note-Taking Markup Language) architecture makes it attractive to users in a wide variety of industries, especially in the education, science, and business fields.
Version 1.8 offers a variety of new features, including a toolbar Web search box that allows you to access such sites as Google, Yahoo!, Ask Jeeves, and others without leaving NoteTaker. You can also customize it for other search engines applicable to your field. The X-Ray Info Box adds dynamic link viewing by creating a floating pop-up window that displays the contents of links as you roll your mouse pointer over them.
The new improvements to NoteTaker Services add a hot key assignment function and automatically title information as its clipped and added to a NoteBook. In addition, NoteTaker 1.8 features new data management preferences that automatically compact index pages when NoteBooks are saved or closed as well as a variety of interface enhancements and such new commands as Word Count, Print Page, and Previous/Next pages in the Web History list.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v.10.2.x “Jaguar” or higher for both the full application and the viewer. NoteTaker 1.8 is US$69.95, with a $39.95 academic license available. You can also download a 30-day trial from the AquaMinds Web site and try out NoteTaker.
