4D Inc. announced on Monday that 4D for OCI 2003.3, a major upgrade that introduces a Mac OS X version of the plug-in as well as an enhanced Framework and speed and stability fixes, is now available for download through the company’s Web site. The plug-in enables 4D applications to communicate with ORACLE servers through the Oracle Call Interface (OCI).
“The ability to access ORACLE servers from both Mac OS X and Windows platforms provides developers with the power and ease to develop cross-platform enterprise applications,” said 4D president and CEO Brendan Coveney.
4D for OCI’s new enhanced Framework makes building ORACLE-compatible 4th Dimension-based applications easier. The plug-in allows you to clone 4D tables as ORACLE tables — and vice-versa — as well as exchange data by value or address and more. It features support for Binary Large Objects (BLOBs), Character Large Objects (CLOBs), and ORACLE 8.16, 9 and 10. You can also use it with other 4D plug-ins, such as 4D ODBC, 4D Write, or 4D Draw.
System requirements call for a G3 or better processor, Mac OS 9.2.1 or Mac OS X v10.2.x “Jaguar” or higher, and 64MB RAM (128MB recommended). Pricing begins at US$199.
