If you feel a burning need to keep track of everything in your house — from computer equipment, CDs, and DVDs to furniture, jewelry, and even groceries — Intelli Innovations Inc. has the solution for you: the IntelliScanner Pro, a USB barcode reader with the ability to scan any barcode and enter the data in the included Inventory software application, which can also print asset tags for items that don’t have barcodes.
Inventory features 20 built-in templates, for everything from appliances to groceries, for barcode-enabled item organization, as well as search and print tools, lending management with e-mail notifications, customizable fields, and more. In addition, the companion Collection application catalogs books, movies, music, and games when their barcodes are scanned; it also automatically grabs full details and artwork from Internet-based databases so that you don’t have to populate its fields. The IntelliScanner Pro is also compatible with such applications as FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Excel, and QuickBooks.
The scanner itself features a nonvolatile memory chip that stores configurations you scan in from the included Advanced Configuration Guide. Those settings are stored even when the scanner is unplugged. It also comes with extensive support for all major barcode types found in the U.S. and international markets, as well as UPC-to-EAN value conversion and UPC/EAN price barcode support.
In addition, the IntelliScanner Pro comes with 50 sticky-backed asset tags that are pre-printed with a unique serial number and barcode. The included xTagger software allows you to add graphics, customize tag captions, and change barcode values on future asset tags.
Intelli Innovations plans to start shipping the new scanner on March 12 at a price of US$399. It requires Mac OS X v10.2 “Jaguar” or higher and an available USB 1.1 or 2.0 port.
