Pleasanton, Calif.-based developer Prosoft Engineering released version 2.0 of Data Backup on Wednesday. The new edition features an updated user interface, better compression technology, improved encryption, and scheduling options that are easier to set up.
Data Backup allows you to both back up and restore critical data files from and to any mounted drive, including CD and DVD burners, networked volumes, or hard drives connected via ATA, SCSI, FireWire, or USB.
You can also use the application to clone your bootable drive, schedule tasks, specify files or folders that should never be backed up, create an exact copy of a folder or disk, save older backups for reference purposes, copy only files that have been modified since the last backup, synchronize folders, and compress data on any drive.
Data Backup 2.0 is US$59. It’s a free upgrade for owners of the earlier version, and you can download a demo that’s fully functional for 30 days. System requirements call for Mac OS X v.10.2 “Jaguar” or higher.
