Apple has turned its interest to Unreal Tournament 2004 (UT 2K4), the about-to-be-released first person shooter from MacSoft.
Even though UT 2K4 is billed as a gladiatorial action game, Epic Games lead designer Cliff “cliffyb” Bleszinski is careful to overplay what he calls “the sports angle,” saying that emphasis works both for and against the game. “Yes, this is a bloodsport, and there is a tournament, but it’s not the WWE. We must pick and choose what we take from the sports side very carefully,” he said.
Apple’s coverage lists what’s new in the game with color commentary from Bleszinski himself. He explains how UT 2K4’s designers were careful to balance the game’s new capabilities — new weapons, new vehicles — to make sure that some players didn’t have overwhelming balances in their favor.
More info is available from Apple’s site, including screenshots of the game in action, recommended game hardware, details about the game modes, vehicles and system requirements. You can also download a playable demo.
